It seems like only yesterday we got the not-so-bright idea to transform our street-driven 11-second sedan into a stock-bottom-end time bomb ready to tackle the quarter-mile with one of the biggest superchargers you can buy, the Vortech Mondo. But it has been more than a year since Jim Summers and ASSC Racing joined on to help us fulfill the dream of pushing a 5.0 way beyond what any sane individual would. We spent the majority of that time concentrating on the little things that turn a nice street/strip car into a focused effort at assaulting the track in mind-bending fury.
In this update on Project Mondo Stocker, we want to explain why we chose some of the latest drag parts, ones you can get for your Mustang. You'll see a consistent theme with these upgrades: increased strength and decreased weight. We've also concentrated on preparing the supporting equipment for the future of this car somewhere in the low-9-second zone once an upgraded short-block is installed. All of this will go a long way to helping us reach our goal--to run in the 9-second zone with a 60,000-mile-old stock 5.0 short-block.
Take a gander at the sidebars below for a look at the final preparation before we take to the track.
