Fastest Ford Mustang Race - Pro 5.0
The Official NMRA Fan Guide
Home to the most powerful small-block, Ford-powered Mustangs in the world, ATI-ProCharger Pro 5.0 will have you on your feet screaming for more as competitors push their cars deep into the mid-six-second zone at more than 210 mph! Pro 5.0 is a professional-level drag racing class where small-block Ford engines power tube-chassis Mustangs to mid-six-second e.t.'s. Rear tire size is as large as 36x17 inches. Any 302- or 351-based small-block Ford engine is allowed, ranging from 306 to more than 430 ci. Single power adders are allowed with nitrous, supercharger, and turbocharger systems helping these powerplants make more than 2,000 hp! These cars weigh from 2,200 to 2,900 pounds depending on their cubic inches and power adder of choice. Many of the top cars run a Pro Stock-caliber Liberty five-speed or Lenco manual transmission, whereas some rely on a race-prepared automatic. In eliminations, there will be an all-run field run on a pro-tree (0.400) NHRA PRO ladder.
One to Watch: Several new teams will field Pro 5.0 cars at the NMRA for 2004. Watch for Carlo Catalanotto, Todd Fluman, Chuck Lawrence, several Pro Stock cars, and Wild Bill Devine to be in action at NMRA Pro 5.0 for 2004.
Quick Fact: With attractive weight breaks for converter-equipped cars in Pro 5.0 (from 175 to 225 pounds), you will see several new and returning teams using this "loop hole" to get their cars down to fighting weight. With a five-speed turbocharged car versus an automatic-equipped nitrous car, there can be more than a 500-pound weight difference. Watch for the differences in combinations to lead some teams to the top of the points race for 2004.
